Diana Senechal's new book provides a critical look at our plugged-in, always-on, always-connected culture and the impact it has on society, particularly on the educational process. She invites us to step back and remember the virtues of solitude and the value of reflection and quiet in the face of our daily bombardment with information and messages. She reminds us that the ability to concentrate on complex problems depends on a developed attention span, a resource that's being rapidly eroded both in society at large and in an educational system increasingly dependent on technology.
