Educator Tom Weiner has spent decades thinking about the fateful choice that affected young men of his generation, and those close to them: what to do about the draft. The result is Called to Serve: Stories of Men and Women Confronted by the Vietnam War Draft. This book, published locally by Levellers Press, is the fruit of years of extensive interviews with people who made different choices among the available options: to serve, to resist, to leave the country, to become a conscientious objector, or to find a way around the draft altogether. This book will resonate with many of us who lived through that era, and illuminate that time for those born afterward.
