After Sappho--Selby Wynn Schwartz

After Sappho is a lush, lyrical and exceptionally smart mosaic of early twentieth-century lesbian modernism. Told in intense fragments, It traces erotic connections among a number of free-spirited, independent, and creative women: names like Natalie Barney , Colette, Eleanora Duse and Isadora Duncan, and Virginia Woolf appear, along with slightly lesser-known figures like Romaine Brooks and Eileen Gray.  The prose is gorgeous, the outlook Utopian, with  a healthy dose of underlying feminist anger.
