When it was first published twenty years ago, Beverly Tatum's book was a revelation about the persistence of racism in American society, and about the response of people of color to that racism. It argued for the importance of strengthening a sense of racial identity among marginalized groups in a white society.  The multiple shootings of young  black men by police and  the recent resurgence of white supremacist groups across the country have only increased the book's relevance.  Beverly Tatum will speak about  this  newly revised  Twentieth  Anniversary edition of her  book and will invite questions and comments from the audience.
