Hollywood screenwriter and actress Guinevere Turner spent her childhood in the Lyman Family, a cult group that expected the world to end in January of 1975 and had isolated itself entirely from the outside world. When her mother leaves the group in disgrace, Guinevere is thrust into the world outside and forced to cope with the unknown. Even as she yearns for the life she's left behind, she gradually begins to understand its destructiveness. She draws on her childhood diaries to render this harrowing account of an extraordinary childhood.
Guinevere Turner is an acclaimed screenwriter, actress and director. She co-wrote the screenplays for American Psycho and for Charlie Says, and wrote and starred in the film Go Fish.
Andrea Lawlor teaches at Mount Holyoke College and is the author of Paul Takes the Form of a Mortal Girl.
