About the Author

James L. Swanson is the Edgar Award–winning author of the New York Times bestseller Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase for Lincoln’s Killer and an executive producer of the 2024 Apple TV+ Manhunt series. Swanson has degrees in history from the University of Chicago, where he was a student of John Hope Franklin, and in law from the University of California, Los Angeles. As a Historic Deerfield Fellow in Early American History, he lived in a pre–Revolutionary War house near the site of the 1704 Raid on Deerfield, Massachusetts.

Swanson is an independent scholar and author. Research for his book is based on many items and manuscripts from PVMA’s Museum and Library collections.
